My short-term rental journey began in May 2024. It started with a lot of potential (and a lot of work).
When we purchased this home, it was built in 1980 and needed serious love. The main level had just two bedrooms and one bathroom, medium green carpet throughout, and an unfinished basement with a makeshift “bedroom” that had no walls or flooring. It wasn’t pretty — but we could see what it could become.
From Fixer to Dream STR
My husband and I took this home down to the studs in many areas and completely transformed it.
We fully built out the basement
Remodeled much of the main level
Rebuilt the exterior decks and added a custom staircase to the backyard
Addressed countless electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance issues
Upgraded to high-end flooring, wood ceilings, fresh interior and exterior paint
Added a dedicated shed for lake toys and storage
Revitalized the landscaping to match the setting
Then came the details that truly turn a house into a successful STR.

Outfitting a short-term rental is an entirely different mindset than furnishing a primary home. We thoughtfully equipped the property with:
High-quality linens and furnishings
Comfortable, durable couches and beds
Washer/dryer setups that actually work for turnovers
Designated cabinetry and storage for housekeepers
Fully stocked supplies (and generous amounts of backstock)
Clear, friendly notes and signage to guide guests through their stay
